I've always had an interest in dentistry and decided to train as a dental nurse to experience different aspects within the dental field. I thoroughly enjoyed working as a nurse and found a passion for periodontal health. I wanted to develop my skills further to provide care to patients as a clinician, so I decided to train in dental hygiene and therapy.
I gained a first class honours degree at the University of Portsmouth where I carried out restorative and periodontal care to both adult and paediatric patients. The university has a dedicated hygiene and therapy wing with the added benefit of working alongside the Kings dental students clinics to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. It was also great to be able to enjoy coastal life whilst studying and working on the south coast.
I trained as a dental nurse in Wiltshire and worked in Bath for several years. Once graduating as a dental hygiene therapist I worked at two practices in the Bath and Bruton area until moving to the Forest of Dean. Since moving, I now enjoy working across Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. I have and will continue to train to further my range of skills. I am currently certified to provide guided biofilm therapy and teeth whitening.
Every working day in practice is varied, as each patient presents with individual needs. I enjoy helping patients to transform their smile – this can be through improving gum health or removing staining to restore confidence in their smile again. I particularly feel comfortable easing dentally anxious patients into treatment. I am always willing to talk through concerns and aim to create a relaxed environment.
I love adventure and discovering new places through travelling. I have enjoyed exploring the forest since relocating and you will always find my hiking boots in the car ready for action.
I have done sessions on hypnotherapy and acupuncture and plan to continue training in these topics to provide alternative options for patients who may be dentally anxious or struggle with certain aspects of dental treatment. I enjoy learning and I aim to grow with the ever evolving dental techniques and materials to provide the most effective and comfortable treatment.
