I have many years of experience and still enjoy my role as a Hygienist!
I love the fact I can make a difference to peoples oral (and general) health enabling them to have the best possible chance of keeping their teeth into old age. I think kindness goes a long way in life.
I was offered the role of Dental Nurse in the RAF and from there was able to apply to train as a Hygienist. I liked the idea of having more direct clinical involvement with patients and the ability to work more independently.
I trained at The Royal Air Force Institute of Dental Health and Training which was based at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire, qualifying in 1990.
I worked within the RAF for a year following qualification and then left for a role at an NHS practice in Cardiff (This was many years ago and I still keep in touch with them). We have moved around the country over the years and I gained more experience working within NHS and Private Practice. We have been in the Cheltenham area for the last 16 years.
I really enjoy treating nervous patients, I love the challenge of proving that having treatment from a Dental Hygienist doesn’t have to be an awful experience.
We as a practice focus on the patient not just their mouth, I think that being given correct information in a relaxed understanding manner means people can understand how to keep their mouth (and body!) healthy more easily.
I have a family who are growing up too quickly and we have recently been joined By Suzie our miniature labradoodle.
To keep being happy.
